Greetings and Welcome to My Instructional Leadership Blog!

First, a little bit about me…this is my 32nd year as an educator. During this time, I have had the pleasure of serving in a wide variety of roles, which have contributed to my passion for high-quality teacher practice. Below are some of these roles:

  • High school science teacher
  • New teacher mentor
  • High school dean of students
  • Elementary school principal
  • Middle school dean of students
  • Teacher support director
  • Staff development director
  • Educational services director

I include these to give you a sense of where I am coming from and for you to hopefully have a just like me” connection.

I earned my doctorate a few years ago, and although I might rethink that choice at my age if I had to do it again (only due to student loan debt), the experience reinforced my passion for the great value of the school leader’s influence on the quality of instruction. My dissertation focused on the development of an instrument for site administrators to assess their teacher evaluation practice (both formative and summative) in relation to research-based practices.

This blog is dedicated to supporting site administrators in the development of their teacher supervision skills, a little at a time, in order to gain confidence in their ability to be impactful instructional leaders. Within that dedication is the realization that site administrators have VERY little time to devote to theoretical study. Therefore, my goal is to offer practical, “I can use this tomorrow” advice on building learning-focused relationships with teachers that will allow a greater influence in moving the school’s instructional program forward.

I am looking forward to supporting your practice!

Amy
